Measure the moisture before changing settings

More cooling capacity is not automatically the answer

Cooling and moisture control also depend on system setup. Ask about the equipment’s fan and humidity settings; running the fan continuously is not a universal dehumidification fix.
Look for water sources as well as HVAC symptoms
Use bathroom exhaust ventilation during showers, address plumbing leaks, and pay attention to condensation or wet areas. A basement with water entering it needs the water source addressed; an air conditioner cannot repair that problem. Make a note of whether the issue affects the whole house, one bedroom, or just the basement. That distinction is worth sharing before an appointment.
Ask for an assessment of the whole system
Persistent dampness deserves a closer look at airflow, ducts, equipment sizing, and drainage rather than repeated thermostat changes. Depending on the findings, the right next step might involve maintenance, a correction, or separate humidity control.
